Kidney Pathology

Head: Simone Brandt, University Hospital of Zurich

This reference centre is situated at the Institute of Surgical Pathology of the USZ. In the foregoing period, the NCCR co-founded the establishment of large human kidney specimen collection linked to detailed clinical data. Normal and various disease entities (e.g. tumors, diabetic and ischemic nephropathies, autoimmunopathies) are already represented. The platform will continue to develop this biobank, give access to it for histological and biochemical analyses, and provide pathological expertise.

An important additional aspect is the generation of tissue microarrays for rapid, large-scale screening of various human kidney pathologies for altered abundances and cellular expression of signaling molecules identified in the NCCR research projects.
