Rodent Transgenesis

Head: Edith Hummler, University of Lausanne

This reference centre supports members of NCCR-Kidney.CH and offers services in all aspects of introducing new genetic material into mice. It is based on the Transgenic Animal Facility (TAF), which was established in 2004 at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne. The facility is fully equipped with cell culture, molecular biology and microinjection laboratories.

Main techniques used involve the generation of genetically engineered mice ranging from transgenic “knock-in/knock-out” models to advanced tissue specific and inducible models using the cre/lox technique.

The platform provides advisory and technical support at any stage of mouse transgenesis including:

  • experimental design
  • generation of targerting constructs
  • production of genetically-modified mice
  • re-derivation of established mouse lines (embryo transfer)
