Lower Vertebrates
The zebrafish and Xenopus have emerged as versatile vertebrate model organisms for high-throughput screening in drug discovery. The evolutionary conservation of endolysosomal system in zebrafish proximal tubule has established zebrafish as a prominent model organism for kidney tubular diseases. The Xenopus system provides multiple advantages for studying tubular function and disease in vivo.
